The Travelers Companies celebrated this years 2019 Travelers Championship PGA Tournament with a week long projection of some of the top players in attendance onto their iconic Travelers Tower in downtown Hartford lighting up the skyline from miles away. The Travelers Companies took over the sponsorship of the tournament in 2007 after Buick dropped out after their three commitment. Hunter Mahan won that first year as the Travelers Championship began to gain a reputation for producing first time PGA Tour winners.

The tournament struggled the first couple years Travelers took over but the leadership of former Travelers CEO Jay Fishman, Travelers Chief Executive Officer Andy Bessette, Tournament Director Nathan Grube and a host of other dedicated staff and volunteers have built a truly classic experience for the tour golfer, their families and golf fans near and far. The tournament has found a permanent date following the US Open and part of the FedEx Cup which many thought would be detrimental to attracting the best golfers after playing one of the four majors but Fishman and Travelers decided they would take advantage of having all the top players together prior to their tournament and offered a charter plane for any player and their family if the committed to play. It paid off, in 2018 the Travelers Championship earned the Players Choice Award for the second consecutive year, which is voted on by PGA Tour members for its services, hospitality, attendance and quality of the course. That is a true testament and tribute to Fishman who passed away in 2017 due to complications of ALS. His love of the game, this tournament and the thousands of other who have been struck with ALS he championed for a cure. He didn’t let ALS stop him from being apart of the 2016 tournament, his last, as he attended each day despite being wheelchair bound and in failing health. He greeted and thanked each player as they as they walked off the 18th green on the final day for making the tournament a success.
